Amafone have developed what we have called mail2sms... its a simple yet powerful solution to overcome messaging whilst on the move. To put it simply, any email delivered to your address can be immediately forwarded to your SMS enabled device such as your mobile phone.

Using Amafones web based account setup and administration system, you are able to set what exactly gets delivered to your phone. Because of the limitation of SMS, only 160 characters can be sent per message, therefore you can select to limit the message to a mixture of the received email, for example you can set it to only receive the senders name, the email address and subject of the message, or have the first x amount of characters sent through, or even have the whole message sent through broken up over a number of messages or a mixture of the above... The choice is yours.

Filtering is also possible so you can set a black list of email addresses to ignore, or alternatively set only certain email addresses to accept for the forwarding on to your SMS device.

All messages sent can also be forwarded on to an existing email address, or stored and later collected from our server as you would any standard email. This is useful if you selected to only receive the email subject so you can then read the rest of the mail at a later date for example.

Because we can send messages to every available mobile network worldwide, with over 90 networks guaranteed, you can also receive the messages whilst away on business or holiday! The possibilities are endless..

How does it work? The system works of a credit system whereby you purchase credits on your account and each message sent to your mobile counts as one credit. There is an initial one off connection charge of £25 for the setup of the email account which includes initial credits, and your credit level can be checked online if required, although an alert will be sent when you are running low. Credit top up is fast and easy to avoid downtime.

What format is the email address in? Our default domain for the email accounts is username@sms.amafone.com and the choice of the username is yours unless its already taken.

Can I use any other address? You are free to forward on mail from any existing account you may have to this address - although we cannot support the third party forwarding used.. Because we own our own servers, arrangements can also made to setup an account from your existing domain names for this use, therefore allowing username@yourdomain.com to be used as an SMS email address. We can also register new domain names for this use, also allowing it to be used for website hosting and standard email etc.

How will I know whether the message gets through? We keep a log of all traffic through our server so that we can monitor any failure reports from our clients. This does not mean that we store your messages for viewing, but simply a diagnostic report. All email is also forwarded on, if required, to a set email address as explained above.
